seen one before Each wanted to understand this strange creature.

One touched its side and declared, “It is like a wall.”

Another felt the tusk: “No, it is like a spear.”

A third held the trunk: “It must be like a snake.”

A fourth wrapped his arms around a leg: “Clearly it’s a tree.”

A fifth brushed the ear: “Surely it is like a fan.”

And the sixth grabbed the tail: “Friends, it’s nothing more than a rope.”

Each was right—yet each was wrong. They were describing pieces of a greater whole.

Why Perspective Matters

This ancient story reminds us that our experiences shape how we see the world.

I don’t paint many abstracts, but above is one I did recently. Most see it as a vase of flowers,

but one of my friends clearly saw her dog in it. What do you see?

In art, a single painting may stir peace in one viewer, joy in another, and indifference in a

third. Different eyes, different experiences, different truths.

The Bigger Picture

Whether in life, business, or art, the lesson is the same: our perspective is valuable, but it is

never the whole story. True wisdom comes when we step back, listen to others, and begin to

see the elephant in full.
